Dakota Rayne
They say home is a place you can always return to, no matter how long you've been away. Oh if only this were true for this young man, his body still covered in unhealed wounds from the day he could never run far enough from. He stands alone in the woods, head down, eyes locked on his reflection in a puddle at his feet. Who even was this man? This beaten and battered thing staring up at him, eyes filled with torment. A few months ago he had been someone in love, with life, his herd, his family, and a man with a dashing smile. Now... now he was nothing more than a shell of a boy, his personality fragmented by betrayal, disgrace, and banishment.
He stomped in the puddle with a snort, his face contorted with the pain of self loathing. There was no time for this. He was supposed to be finding the King, swearing himself to him and requesting a role within the Kingdom. He had been within the herd for awhile now, long enough that the King would know of his presence, would have spoken to him a time or two. But he had been in no shape to pledge himself during their previous meetings, his body badly damaged from banishment and the journey Southwest. Now, though his wounds had not fully healed, his mind not even begun to heal, the rest of him was ready to be put to work. He made his way through the forest, letting out a whiny here and there to alert the King to the fact that his audience was being requested. Despite everything he had been taught about outsiders... despite... what had happened, Oriole had allowed him to seek refuge here in his lands. And for that, Dakota owed him a life-debt, one he was prepared to pay with servitude.
