personality
Esmira's small, but she's got a lot of fight and an incredibly hot temper to make her seem a bit bigger. She's got a strong sense of fairness, and has no qualms being the vocal conscience of anyone around her. While she strongly believes in equality, and can't abide a bully at all, she also can't abide the taking of a life for any purpose. How can someone change, or be useful, if they're dead? Plus, the cosmic scales won't abide it, and she's perhaps a bit superstitious. Alright, very superstitious. She's a big believer in karma, and that stooping to your enemy's level makes you no better than they are. So while she can be a strong supporter of a rebellious cause, she also isn't willing to do just anything it takes to get there. It's not hard to make her angry or irritable, though most of the time she's perfectly pleasant (though quick-witted) in conversation. While Alleyah is an iron and unyielding fist, Esmira is a reformer - perhaps the softer side of the duo, though she won't back down from a fight. If you get on her bad side, some buttering up is needed to get her back, because she can hold a grudge until the dinosaurs come back around.
history
Esmira and her twin, Alleyah, were born to a small band of mountain nomads unaffiliated with the powers in the West. They were part bandit, part wanderers, never staying in one area long and taking what they needed from the outskirts of the herdlands behind the leaders' backs. The band was mostly stallions, with their roguish leader and his beautiful bride, the only lady strong enough to stand among them. However strong Shasta was, her only daughters never really got to know her for more than a fleeting period - having twins was hard on her, and Shasta's health never returned after the birth of her daughters. While she had two scant months to teach them strength of will and a strong sense of right and wrong, their time with her was cut woefully short. Though their merry band of misfits sought to protect her, her weakness finally claimed her when the girls were two months old, hardly old enough to be without her. Their father was never the same after that, and though the others tried to help with the children, their lifestyle and lack of parenting skills left a lot to be desired. The twins were given almost entirely free reign and were rarely watched, playing with each other with no one else their age around. They grew up pretty wild, though they loved their life - despite their distant, careless father, they had a number of 'uncles' to keep them entertained. However, the dangers of being a nomad's daughters became pretty apparent as they moved past their yearling year, shedding a foal's coat for those of sleek fillies. There were always other loners that came across them, squabbles over territory, resources, and, yes, women. The older and prettier they became, the more insistent the fights became as well. The twins realized they had become a liability for their family, and they hatched their own plan to leave in the dark of night. There were two of them, after all - they would be fine. It wasn't long after they left, though, that the cougar attacked them on their way off of the mountain range. It was a near thing, with the cat hanging from Esmira's haunches, but she managed to get enough clearance to land a double-barreled blow to its chest, sending it running off in pain. While they survived, her wounds were deep, and she had a rough week of high fevers where Alleyah cared for her. Esmira pulled through, but it became clear that they were vulnerable alone as they hadn't been in the group. They set off again, not with any particular destination in mind - they'd never been off the mountain range, after all. But they knew they'd know the right place when they found it. Somewhere they could be themselves, and look after each other.
